Prime Minister chairs consultations on recent death cases reported in the Army
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan chaired consultations
on the recent death cases reported in the Armed Forces.
Participating in the meeting were Secretary of the
Security Council Armen Grigoryan, Minister of Defense David Tonoyan, Acting
Director of the National Security Service Eduard Martirosyan, Chief of the
General Staff of the Armed Forces Artak Davtyan, Prosecutor General Artur
Davtyan, other senior representatives of the Armed Forces and law-enforcement
agencies.
The circumstances and causes of recent deaths in the
Armed Forces were discussed. Those in charge of relevant agencies presented
reports on the criminal cases initiated.
Prime Minister Pashinyan prioritized the solution of
the issues related to the criminal subculture and discipline in the Armed
Forces and emphasized the necessity of taking consistent measures to
significantly increase the level of discipline, giving appropriate instructions
to those responsible.
Heritage expects “partial, illegitimate results” from Armenia referendum

PanARMENIAN.Net – Heritage party has issued a statement ahead of a referendum on constitutional amendments, noting that any outcome will bring about “partial and illegitimate results” for the country.
If the constitutional amendments are approved by the public on April 5, the powers of seven out of nine judges of the country’s top court will be suspended.
“Armenia is not a testing ground for foreign influences or interpersonal conflicts,” the party said in the statement.
“No political power has the right to become a self-proclaimed judge of loyalty to the Armenian citizens, dividing the country into sections between the anti-state and the devoted.”
While Heritage says the country needs a new top court, the party believes “the road to the Constitutional Court of our dreams cannot be built on either a rigged constitution or a partial proofreading and an attempt to legitimize it (the Constitution -Ed.) through referendum.”

Constitutional referendum campaign kicks off in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net – The first day of the campaign of a referendum for constitutional amendments kicked off in Armenia on Monday, February 17.
The “Yes” campaign is led by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Development Suren Papikyan, who is also the Chairman of the Board of the ruling Civil Contract party.
No “No” campaign has been started as both parliamentary and non-parliamentary opposition parties have announced they will not participate in the campaign.
Should lawmakers who voted in favor or against the referendum fail to start a “No” campaign by February 17, any group of 50 citizens is eligible to do so within a day.
The referendum campaign will conclude on April 3.
Armenia will be holding a referendum on constitutional amendments on April 5. If the constitutional amendments are approved by the public, the powers of seven out of nine judges of the country’s top court will be suspended.

The changes seek to amend
Article 213 of the Constitution related to the appointment of the president and
members of the Constitutional Court.
The proposed amendments are intended to suspend the term of the Constitutional Court President and members elected until April 9, 2018.
The referendum will take
place on April 5, 2020.
The issue put on a referendum
will be considered acceptable if at least one-quarter of the 650,000 voters
cast their ballot in favor of it.
14 candidates running for President in Artsakh elections

PanARMENIAN.Net – 14 candidates are running for President in the upcoming general elections in Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) this spring.
Both the presidential and parliamentary elections will be held on March 31, with 2 alliances and 10 parties having submitted electoral lists.
Under the country’s electoral code, registration of electoral lists of parties and alliances by 6:00pm, February 25, 18:00.
Incumbent President Bako Sahakyan has declared that he will not be seeking a fourth term in office in 2020.
Sahakyan assumed office for his third term in September 2017 after he was re-elected the president of Artsakh in July 2017.
Yerevan to host first Armenia-Greece-Cyprus trilateral summit in April
On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with the Foreign Minister of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
The interlocutors touched upon a number of issues on the Armenian-Cypriot agenda, emphasizing the high level of interstate relations based on the centuries-old friendship of the two peoples.
Ministers Mnatsakanyan and Christodoulides discussed in detail the prospects of development of the Armenia-Greece-Cyprus trilateral mechanism established in 2019 and preparations for first trilateral summit in Yerevan in April.
The interlocutors also touched upon the issues of partnership between Armenia and the European Union, highlighting in this context the Comprehensive and Extended Partnership Agreement, which is the new legal basis for cooperation with EU and EU member states.
The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Cyprus exchanged views on urgent issues on the regional and international agenda. The parties underlined the importance of international cooperation in the maintenance and strengthening of regional security and stability.
